Tropic's GEiGS® Technology for the Development of Disease Resistant Corn and Soybeans
September 27, 2023 |
Tropic and Corteva Agriscience will harness the power of Tropic's proprietary Gene Editing induced Gene Silencing (GEiGS®) technology to develop non-transgenic disease resistance traits in corn and soybeans.
The GEiGS® technology uses established genome editing tools such as CRISPR or TALEN to make precise and specific changes to only a few nucleotides within non-coding genes of a host organism. Tropic and Corteva aim to control disease threats that have significant impacts on crop productivity and food security.
The project will develop effective and durable disease-resistance traits against a devastating range of pathogens. The GEiGS®-mediated traits will be integrated into Corteva's premium corn and soybeans, to increase their yield potential and reduce the environmental impact of traditional disease control methods.
