Experts Publish Proposed Applications of Genetic Targeting Technologies
July 27, 2023 |
Gene editing is a powerful tool that allows scientists to change the DNA of living organisms. This can be used to create organisms with new or improved traits, or to fix genetic defects. Researchers from Russia, South Africa, and China released a review on the advantages of CRISPR-Cas9 in comparison to other gene editing tools, such as zinc finger proteins (ZNF) and transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs). The review also discusses the potential applications of CRISPR-Cas9 in agriculture and veterinary medicine. CRISPR-Cas9 could be used to create crops that are resistant to pests and diseases, animals that produce more food, and vaccines that are more effective.
The review concludes by discussing the future of CRISPR-Cas9, which has the potential to revolutionize many fields, and it is likely to be used to develop improved organisms in the future.
